Inside the Mind of Curt Weldon

That's the destination of intrepid 9/11 commission investigators who will try to pin down the congressman's downright creepy claim that a secret Army intel unit knew that Mohammed Atta was running a terror cell in the U.S. way back in 1999!

All of this would normally be eminently dismissible coming from Weldon, the man who believes anything Iranian "dissidents" tell him, like the CIA in Paris covering up Iranian plots against the U.S. But there's the fact that 9/11 commission investigators themselves do recall hearing about the Army unit, code named Able Danger, back in 2003. Huh.

This could just be a delayed feed-back loop featuring Weldon connecting the wrong dots, or a legitimately overlooked lead buried in black-op mumbo jumbo.

Keep watching the skies.

Sandy Berger's dog ate the Atta documents.

if this turns out to be true expect it to get little mainstream media attention like every other scandal in the 9/11/Iraq affair.

They might have been thinking of the Coral Snake team from 24.

here's a question:

how did the trail from WTC (1993), Kenya, Cole, and 9/11 link together? etc. etc. etc.

and what about that camel Clinton killed with a cruise missle. What did he (was that humphrey?) have to do with everything?

I'm on my way to interrogate the members of Able Danger right now. I'm in LA, they're in DC, and I'm taking a CTU helicopter. Since this whole thing is being planned by the people who wrote season 4, I should reach DC in about 20 minutes.

hey Jack: why don't you send your daughter to search caves in afghanistan. that way we don't have to deal with her (season one info, only).

was season four the time where people drove around LA in 20 minutes? makes sense.

still, after the changes in season one, you have to be a bit addled to stick with that show. (sorry, Thoreau)

If I recall correctly, Stephen Coll's 'Ghost Wars' touches upon some of the earlier missed info on Atta and his boys. A fairly reliable source and an excellent read, the misses were not stunningly remarkable. A ball was dropped, along with others, but it was a tiny ball among thousands of similar, yet hollow balls.

ChrisO | August 10, 2005, 9:59am | #

"Hollow Balls"--that would make an *excellent* band name!--you better get that right over to the trademark office and hope they don't reject it as 'indecent'! :)

Seriously, though, I'm sure the Able Danger folks, assuming they actually exist, really appreciate being paraded around the media by some Congress critter from Nowheretown, Pa.

Able Danger sounds like a great name for the lead singer from Hollow Balls.

Atta boy! Good dog!

Bush was planning on taking the documents with him to Crawford during his 2001 vacation, but the suitcase filled up, and it was either those or "My Pet Goat."

Isaac Bartram | August 10, 2005, 1:06pm | #

joe, (heh heh), I'm waiting to see if Stevo Darkly can top that. But I don't think he can. :o

You forgot about Oklahoma City (1995), since Bush knew about that in advance, too.

hey Jack: why don't you send your daughter to search caves in afghanistan.

Actually, she's working undercover as The Porn Star Next Door.

Because only terrorists watch porn, and CTU can track their porn-viewing habits via satellite.

And if you liked me in "24," check out "1440" (as in, 1,440 minutes in 24 hours).

Is there a terrorist cell in Orange County, CA?

Dave W. | August 11, 2005, 9:16am | #

Too bad the 9-11 Commission wasn't a Grand Jury. Then they could have put S. Berger in jail until we got the true story. They musta notta thoughta that.
