Better and Better: Order Pizza Via TiVo

I squealed with joy when I read this (I really did. Ask the guys here at reason's DC HQ if you don't believe me): You can now order pizza from your TiVo.

From the press release:

TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), the creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVRs), and Domino's Pizza, Inc. (NYSE: DPZ), the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, have teamed up to give broadband connected TiVo subscribers the ability to order pizza for delivery or pick-up, and track delivery timing, right from their TV sets using the TiVo® service.

Tell me that this quote from Rob Weisberg, vice president of precision and print marketing at Domino’s Pizza, Inc., doesn't make your heart overflow with joy at the wonders of the modern world:

"This is the first time in history that the ‘on-demand’ generation will be able to fully experience couch commerce by ordering pizza directly through their television set. You’ll see a television ad for Domino’s and you’ll click ‘I want it’ through your remote. In about 30 minutes, your pizza will show up at your door.”

Just in case you missed it, you can track your pizza from your couch.

Although the pizza angle is new, shopping by remote isn't. In fact, TiVO is also partnering with Amazon to allow subscribers to buy product that is highlighted on talk shows. And, of course, TiVO is only one player--HSN and others are also experimenting with instant consumption via remote.

come on doc, not adventourous. I would love to give it a taste! but i do love to watch A. Zimmerman and his taste treats on tv. Try everything once, then you will truley know if it is good or not! I have eaten things around the globe that would make a normal american hurl. food is different all over the world, and we do not make the most of it in the states. I laugh when i hear about someone starving lost in the woods, starving, really, unless it is a dessert or in the dead of winter, food is abundant under your feet in trees and such, one should never ever starve in the wilds unless it is an extreme environ.

I agree, I enjoy trying new foods all the time. I've had my share of foods from 'Bizarre Foods'. I *like* Durian where as it made Zimmerman gag. And I had these beautiful fish air bladders in Hong Kong.

But cheap lamb and barbecue sauce seemed to a high a hurl factor. When in OZ, I usually got the "Toni Pepperoni" (they have cute aussie names for all the pizza's). And the Satyr they have in the domino's commercials there is kinda hot.

What also ticks me off in the Aussie Domino's is that a "large" pizza there is a "medium" one in the US. Rip off! That and one of those delivered is $30AU. Double rip off! :-)

You used to be able to order a pizza in Everquest II by typing "/pizza" in a chat window. However, this has even less buttons to press, so I think we can consider this progress!

I'm with you Doc, chain Pizza stores in OZ are rubbish. For me the slight inconvenience of getting proper Italian-style thin crust pizza from proper Italians is outweighed by the considerable improvement in taste.

I am on my couch now, on my laptop, reading this.

I can use this here notebook PC thingy and high speed internet connection to order pizza from any pizze place that has embraced 20th Century pizza ordering technology.

Or I could use Tivo ( which I don't have but let's say I do) to order from Dominos ( which I could also do from this internet thing).

Revolutionary improvement there.

Pizzas are not immune to the downsizing craze. A supermarket frozen pizza is now the size of a dinner plate. Dominos boxes get smaller and smaller. A two-pizza "special" is nothing more than two smalls equaling what a large used to be.

Friends of mine made a funny graphic on their blog about this Domino's Tivo deal. In their version, you an order a 6 course tasting meal or ramen. It's actually pretty funny.
