Everything's Gonna Be All White

On Monday I blogged about the rumors of a video that shows Michelle Obama making hateful comments about "whitey." I'm now convinced that Larry Johnson, the blogger who's done the most to make the rumors public, is spreading misinformation. At the least, he's been unable to stick to his story.

Johnson starts getting attention for this on May 26, recounting intel from "someone in touch with a senior Republican."
I know for a fact that Barack and Michelle Obama would like the tape of her blasting “whitey” during a rant at Jeremiah Wright’s church to never see the light of day.
On the night of May 31, Johnson fires up the speculation by promising an update by 9 a.m. on June 2. "Now I know why people who have seen the videotape say it is stunning." The blogs start churning, and reporters fish around. On June 1, Roger Stone appears on Fox News and says he's heard rumors about a Michelle Obama tape. Gleefully, a NoQuarter blogger completes the Mobius strip and claims Stone has given Johnson "new credence."

A little before 8 a.m. on June 2, Johnson reveals what he learned from "five separate sources who have spoken directly with people who have seen the tape."
It features Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan. They are sitting on a panel at Jeremiah Wright’s Church when Michelle makes her intemperate remarks. Whoops!!
The bloggy frenzy increases, with a few possible "transcripts" of the speech making the rounds. Booman posts a theoretical transcript ("from what I understand") in which Obama says "why'd he" and it sounds like she's saying "whitey." Blogger MyTownTalks posts part of "an e-mail with part of the alleged speech," in which Obama says both "whitey" and "why'd he," and rants about "the white man" who "let Katrina happen."

Later in the day, Johnson gleefully updates:
Major Obama donors went to the campaign demanding explanations after the posting of my story on No Quarter about the contents of the videotape confirmed to me by several reliable sources, all Republicans with access to knowledge but who do not know each other. So the campaign created a would-be transcript of the video it says doesn’t exist. In the Obama campaign produced transcript Michelle says “why’d he” instead of “whitey.” Very clever. Then the campaign sent this transcript to key Obamaton bloggers to circulate. And the campaign sent it to the donors to prevent them from having a nervous breakdown.

On the morning of June 3, B-list Democratic pundit Bob Beckel goes on Fox News and speculates that "there might be a big shoe dropping on Michelle Obama tomorrow." Later that night, after all the polls are closed, SusanUnPC posts a photo of Michelle Obama at a June 28, 2004 luncheon from the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition convention in Chicago, posing alongside Louis Farrakhan's wife. It kicks off another wave of speculation. On June 4, a blogger at "HillBuzz" posts a new explanation of what's on the tape and claims it was actually recorded at this luncheon.

For about 30 minutes, Michelle Obama launched into a rant about the evils of America, and how America is to blame for the problems of Africa. Michelle personally blamed President Clinton for the deaths of millions of Africans and said America is responsible for the genocide of the Tutsis and other ethnic groups. She then launched into an attack on "whitey", and talked about solutions to black on black crime in the realm of diverting those actions onto white America. Her rant was fueled by the crowd: they reacted strongly to what she said, so she got more passionate and enraged, and that's when she completely loses it and says things that have made the mouths drop of everyone who's seen this.

Louis Farrakhan isn't there, nor is Hurricane Katrina (which happened a year after this luncheon, of course) mentioned. Nonetheless, Johnson links the post as "BREAKING NEWS from Hillbuzz."

I am not trying to steal thunder from HillBuzz. That blogger is breaking important news.
National Review's Jim Geraghty finds the schedule of the Rainbow/PUSH event. First, the event was held at a Sheraton 14 miles away from Trinity United, yet Hillbuzz claims that Trinity United was selling a tape of this on the church web site. Second, Bill Clinton spoke at the conclusion of the conference, days after this event, yet Hillbuzz theorized that Obama was raging against Clinton. Third, Obama wasn't a featured speaker at the event: Rev. Jesse Jackson was. Michelle Obama was, with freed POW Shoshanna Johnson, a "special guest." There was no panel. It seems strange that the state senator's wife would give a 30-minute speech during a 2-hour luncheon at which she wasn't even the speaker. Later in the day, Johnson whines about the pro-Obama bloggers causing a "diversion."
I learned last week that Republicans have a tape of Michelle in a racist rant. She does so while part of a panel discussion. I do not know where this occurred.
That's my emphasis because two days earlier Johnson reported that Obama was sitting with Louis Farrakhan at Trinity United, and a week before that Johnson was already reporting that Obama's rant was at Trinity United. Johnson starts walking back the story by sputtering that "with or without said tape, we do know that the Obamas participated for almost 20 years in a church that espoused racism." But "without said tape," there's no story. Let's rewind it back. Johnson, on June 2:
It features Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan. They are sitting on a panel at Jeremiah Wright’s Church.
Johnson, two days later.
I do not know where this occurred.
In his peddling of this story, Johnson has altered his description of what was in the tape. I e-mailed Johnson, asked about the holes in the HillBuzz story, and called him a liar. He e-mailed me back.
You and Reason in the same sentence? Now that's funny. I don't recall soliciting an email from you so fuck off.
Until he comes out with a video tape that shows at least one of the many rumored "Michelle speeches," I think that's the last we need to hear from Larry Johnson.

Comments to "Everything's Gonna Be All White":

John | June 5, 2008, 12:22pm | #

I said at the time that once the rumor broke, if it didn't show up on Youtube with in 24 hours, it was bunk. As funny as it would be to see Michelle Obama telling us her true feelings about whitey, I would say the chances of this being bogus are about 99%. If Johnson had anything, he would just post the video.

Larry Johnson's definition of a "reasonable" argument:
I am still waiting for someone to explain to me why Barack Obama represents “change” and “hope” for a new future. The White House is currently occupied by an inexperienced man–a nice man–of limited accomplishment who used cocaine as a young adult. And the best answer the Democrats now offer is an inexperienced man who used cocaine as a young adult? That is change?
Yep, Obama and Bush, two peas in a pod.

To quote Ray Liota in Goodfellas, "This is real greaseball shit". If the tape doesn't exist, it is disgracful to start a rumor that it does. If the tape does exist, it is even worse not to release it and let the Obamas defend themselves and the people judge for themselves. Regardless of what the truth is, Johnson sucks.

Hannity the other day was real slippery about this, he constantly denied being in hold of the tape, but each time he mentioned it he described it like;

It was kind of sleezy.

Jessee, I didn't know it existed but I wouldn't have been shocked. Michelle Obama is pretty much everything Obama claims not to be. She has chip on her shoulder a mile long and about all of the political judgement of a fence post. Think about it; who in a family generally choses what church you go to and where your kids attend school? The wife generally has more influence on those things. Just a guess, but I bet Michelle had more to do with Obama staying with the good reverend Wright so long than anything else. The idea that she got up with Farakahn and said a bunch of assine offensive things does not take much of a leap of faith to beleive. But, whatever she did or did not say, there sure as hell isn't a tape of it or it would be public by now.

As far as it being sexist to attack her. Well, you live by identity politics you die by them. So, yes Hillary's supporters are not exactly being consistent in that regard.

It is possible, and I would put the chances of such a tape's existence at higher than 1% (as someone above guessed). But the fact is, no one can present any half-way believable evidence. Not only has no one claimed to see a copy of the tape, even Larry's "five independent" sources are all people who have spoken to OTHER people who have seen the tape. No one has spoken up who claims to have actually seen it.

If it exists anywhere, at least a few people have to have access to it. Even if "Rove" or some other evil strategist has it, at least a few staffers and tech-types would have access. These days, it's hard to keep stuff like that off YouTube for too long.

Actually, now that I think about it, 1% seems about right.

All I know is, with all of these allegations flying around, she ought to be less uppity, and more grateful for the enormous unfair advantages enjoyed by women born into poor black families on the South Side of Chicago.

Oh absolutely! These America-haters just don't realize how good they have it. Had she been back in Africa she would still be (insert incredibly racist, sterotypical thing to say here)

Basically, people need to put up or shut up. If the tape exists, show us. As far as I am concerned, if they can't show me, they are full of shit.

I mean, geez, Fox Television was able to fake alien autopsy footage and get huge ratings, is it too much to ask that the conservatives at least find some old low-res footage of Michelle Obama and re-dub the sound? I am not so much insulted by the lies, but that they they aren't even willing to invest the most basic effort into producing an even remotely believable hoax.

Seitz | June 5, 2008, 2:37pm | #

Michelle Obama is pretty much everything Obama claims not to be. She has chip on her shoulder a mile long and about all of the political judgement of a fence post.

Of course, John knows this because of all of the close, personal interactions he's had with the Obamas, and Michelle in particular.

Seitz | June 5, 2008, 2:38pm | #

Whether there's this tape or not, don't worry, there's plenty more out there.

And if you needed any more proof that this is all a load of crap, well, now Lone Dipshit is board. Pretty much seals the deal right there.

ChrisO | June 5, 2008, 2:44pm | #

I exchanged e-mails with a former Nigerian cabinet minister who said that he has the tape and only needs about $5,000 to bring it over to the USA for everybody to see.

Mr Anonymous | June 5, 2008, 2:45pm | #

and how America is to blame for the problems of Africa.

Strictly speaking, there is a little bit of truth to this, but not for the reasons progressives (or fake Michelle) think.

Bronwyn | June 5, 2008, 2:48pm | #

atrevete said it already...

The whole story reads like the week before a dance at my junior high school.

I heard it from a guy who heard from another guy who says he saw it.

Since when How does shit like that pass muster in journalistic circles?

(I realize that the "since when" is a silly question although your answers may be amusing.)

thoreau | June 5, 2008, 2:50pm | #

ChrisO is full of shit. The person with the tape is the nephew of the Nigerian Cabinet Minister. The Minister was killed last year by rebels. The nephew is the one who wants to move the tape, and he needs $10k.

I think that if I tighten my belt this month I can make this happen. I'm sure that the book deals and speaking fees will more than justify my $10k investment.

Bronwyn | June 5, 2008, 2:58pm | #

you're both full of shit. I've got an e-mail from the Nigerian Cabinet Minister's widow, and she wants to move the tape so she can pay for her cancer treatments so their 13 children don't become orphans.

She's willing to send me the tape and $750,000 if I only send her $10,000 and Sean Hannity's home phone number.

"You can't prove a negative"? How zen. I can't to this day figure why anyone would seriously use that statement.

There was documentary proof that Bush skipped his Guard duty, RC. And the Texas House Speaker at the time, talking about how he got him into the Champagne Division in the first place.

Not quite the same thing as "this guy I know knows this guy who heard of someobody who saw a tape..."

Nice try, though. Hey, look over there!

T, first read the post more carefully. Second, "Louis" Farrakhan, old bigot he may be, whether you like it or not (probably not) is not quite the marginalized figure Duke is.

I think I would pick Jackson and Auerbach, respectively.

Wow. You sound very certain of your deductions when they are based on nothing but a gut-feeling of a person you have never met and barely seen on TV.

Keep up the skepticism.

John in Nashville | June 5, 2008, 4:51pm | #

As for bench strength, the Celitics would have Bill Walton, Nate Archibald, K.C. Jones, Sam Jones, Dave Cowens and Robert Parish. The Lakers would have Kobe Bryant, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal, George Mikan, Bob McAdoo and Gail Goodrich.

A slight edge for the Lakers.

Zeb | June 5, 2008, 5:06pm | #

M,
"You can't prove a negative" might better be stated as "you can't empirically demonstrate a negative", bu tin any case, it's not "zen" or anything froofy. It's just true.

Mo | June 5, 2008, 5:36pm | #

John,
That edge is a lot bigger if you get the Bill Walton that played for the Celtics (bad feet and all) rather than all-time Bill Walton. Otherwise, the Lakers get the Mailman and the Glove. I would probably change your starting lineup to have Shaq start at center of Chamberlain. Not because Shaq is better, but Chamberlain is pwned by Russell. Shaq's power game would do a number on Russell.

I'd probably also drop McAdoo for Cooper. The Lakers need a sharpshooter/stopper off the bench and Coop would fit the bill perfectly. Plus, there are already too many front court players on your roster.

Eric | June 5, 2008, 6:26pm | #

I won't be voting for Obama, but this sort of crap has no place in the public political discussion. The only thing that would lend credence to this claim is to make the video public. The only reason to make such a claim without showing the evidence is that it's a LIE. I'd like to see a lawsuit against the blogger. Obama's last interview on GMA shows that this tape is real: Obama was dead serious when he said to leave his wife alone. Oooo, what's he going to do, send the Nation of Islam goons to beat up the Republicans?

I know that just the possibility that the tape exists sends shivers down the spine of all you Obama lovers, but that's the price you pay for supporting this inexperienced, unvetted, racist idiot who thinks there are 57 states in the Union.

The tape is in Republican hands: do you think Karl Rove is stupid enough to release the tape now before Clinton has conceded?

The tape will be released in October. Surprise!!!

When a person's mind is a cesspool of fear, anger and ignorance, not much worth hearing comes out of their mouth. Barack and Michelle are decent, INTELLIGENT people. Barack is half white. Do you REALLY think Michelle is sitting around badmouthing her children's father, grandmother and family? That she'd marry anyone half white if she was such a racist? A little common sense goes a long ways. Hopefully those of you that think these things can find some mental health help. It's obvious you need it. Not all people sink to your level. If you honestly could grasp that fact, you might be able to be a more decent person yourself.

Nope.

We don't need a video of Obama's wife speaking her mind about "whitey". We know how she feels about "whitey" already and it ain't pretty. I know that the PACs are already getting ready for the middle of October to saturate the playing field with the stuff that we already have on Obama. Its more than enough. But of course there is more out there and it will come to light, its just that Larry Johnson's video isn't one of them. Obama hates America and his wife hates it also. I researched a few websites and here's some of the supposed 'transcript' of Michelle's comments in 2004:

Whitie cut folks off medicaid?
Whitie let New Orleans drown?
Whitie do nothing about Jena?
Whitie put us in Iraq for no reason?

and another site quote her as saying:

"Once again, the white man keeps us down, what"s up with Whitey, Why"d he attack Iraq, Why"d he let Katrina happen, Why"d he leave millions of children behind. This is the legacy the white man gives us"

MY FEEDBACK:

Okay, I'm not one for TOO MUCH details but umm...

1. Jena didn't happen until 2006 but became more known in 2007 and
2. Katrina happened in 2005

Again, not too much for details but I can say this one thing, Michelle sure is clairvoyant.... or someone is lying....

On the night Hillary gave her non-concession speech and Obama gave his non-victory speech, I noticed a new expression on Barack's face as he welcomed his wife on stage. It was a combination of exhaustion and fear, mixed with irritation. Obama's about to be hammered very hard by methods far more sophisticated than those that took down his nearest political doppelgänger, George McGovern, and he feels it coming.

This tape may exist. It may not. It doesn't much matter. The inexperienced, untested Obama has a record of associations and employment that provide a treasure trove for opposition researchers. They've just begun to work the guy over. By the time they're finished, he'll be quivering on the floor in a corner, face buried between his knees.

Not to be a nag, but the timeline overlooks this most hilarious May 17th "update" - Larry claims his CIA friend has SEEN the tape (Boy our CIA sure sucks, they can see a tape but can't get a copy of one) and he invents the GOP billionaire offer a million to get a copy

it deserves a post on it's own

-----

Here’s the news short and sweet–if you have a copy of the Michelle Obama video, in which she is lambasting white people (four different sources say she uses “whitey” as an epithet) at Jeremiah Wright’s church, then there is an ultra conservative Republican billionaire who wants to pay your $1 million dollars for the tape. Why? He hates John McCain. Conservative Republicans refer to John McCain as a Marxist and a sell out (and those are the nice comments). The billionaire in question believes Barack is a very weak candidate and, if he gets the Democratic nod, then McCain will surely be President. Especially after the October “surprise” of Michelle Obama railing against whitey. The billionaire wants to preempt McCain and Rove and has put the word out thru conservative networks that there is a $1 million dollar bounty for the person or persons who produce the tape.

I got this info courtesy of a major Republican operative. I am told that Karl Rove and his political allies control the tape where Michelle Obama has a Stokely Carmichael moment of sorts. Rove and company reportedly are showing the tape to big money Republicans to loosen up their wallets and get new money to fund independent expenditure groups. That’s why news of this is starting to leak out. The money is being raised for 527 groups that will target the Democrats in the fall.

A retired CIA buddy is friends with a lawyer who saw the tape. This lawyer, who has a stellar reputation for being very low-key, described the video clip of Michelle’s anti-white rant as, “stunning.” My guess is that the billionaire who detests John McCain is probably going to find someone who will comes up with the tape. So there you have it, someone is looking for “Whitey.” If they find it they get a pay day. If not, you will have to wait till October to watch it.

The reason why this was a joke is because no one born after 1960 uses this word and I think the last time any Black person used it was in that Sly in the Family Stone song. Whitey? Seriously? Is this an episode of Good Times?

Now maybe for a certain white male of a certain age, whitey may actually have a certain effect and would the word of choice to use when creating a fake smear.

As of the idea that she "sat on a panel with Farrakhan", I think if anyone actually reads the article, it is pretty clear that Michelle is a guest of honor at a luncheon. And in the photo, she is ducking in and right next to a former POW. Seriously bizarre.

And the fact there are dipshits out there buying anything these asswipes have to say just makes me tired all over. Every time I think we're making strides, the mouth breathers rear their ugly heads.

What is dragging America down are self serving "pundits" who make idiotic rants to draw attention to themselves. Paying attention to this type of "rant" keeps us from having real discussions about what we are going to do to stop our freefall into becoming a fourth world country.

Obama is shallow??? Well why not ask him what his plans are for us? Not much evidence that anyone is really doing that. All that is going on is American's juvenile inability to get over the shock that a black person might get to have the big job for a while.

I am an American living in Scandinavia where politicians are expected to have a platform and the intellectual ability to defend and support it. From the outside looking in Americans have their heads buried in the sand and prefer the constant diversion of idiotic babble to grappling with the real issues of the day. And here are a few:

1. The end of oil and its impact on our survival
2. The foreign bond holders--the Chinese bought American bonds in the billions of dollars which money has been spent on the "Iraq war" (which isn't even officially designated a war... by the way.) Well, they will want their money back at some point, or else...
3. Can we keep footing the bill for propping up Israel??? There I said it!! Isn't it time to stop giving them billions when they won't stop stealing land in surrounding countries? What are we getting in return?
4. The decimation of the American middleclass. We have the super rich, some rich.. then the great divide before we get to the middle class which is quickly becoming the lower middle class... then the poor, very poor, super poor, and ....
What can I say but in 2008 you should not be traveling in the American south and see cardboard/tin roofed shanty towns.

I could go on....

The reason why this was a joke is because no one born after 1960 uses this word and I think the last time any Black person used it was in that Sly in the Family Stone song. Whitey? Seriously? Is this an episode of Good Times?

It all makes sense!

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy has been watching Nick at Nite because they can't handle all of the naughty naughty sex on regular television. So it's a steady dose of Good Times and Sanford & Son instead of Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy.

I wonder how much they'll pay for a tape of Barack Obama walking up to Louis Farrakhan and shouting "DY-NO-MITE!"

Kilo | June 6, 2008, 3:10am | #

Have we yet discovered a white person who's offended by the term "whitey" ?
Even if someone from Korea called me Whitey I wouldn't be offended by it, let alone someone from a race mine kept as chattel then referred to as niggers.

If you're offended by that, you are one weak arse pussy.

BTW Johnson keeps referring to getting "confirmation" of what's on the tape from "multiple sources". It might be worth remembering that he had precisely the same multi-sourced confirmation for the single-sourced lie about Karl Rove being indicted several years ago.

He's either a willing disseminator of misinformation for Karl Rove et al or so stupid that he can be willingly co-opted to the same ends whenever the need arises.

Your CIA folks. Gullible as a 5yo.

Dan Fleck | June 6, 2008, 3:53am | #

I don't support Obama but I also don't support this trash - if it turns out to be false it will be the worst example of the political gutter since Dan Rather and his 'documents' on Bush.

By the way, just a head check for you all, how did you handle that one? Did you feel the same? Did you email or blog any outrage? If not, go look in the partisan mirror and use this revelation as a growth experience. Politics won't get better until we do - they feed it to us because we'll eat it up!

Manderley | June 6, 2008, 4:07am | #

I AM OFFENDED BY THE TERM "WHITEY" BECAUSE OF HOW BLACKS USE THE TERM. SO, SPEAK FOR YOURSELF DIRTY MOUTH!

OK, brainiac, answer the following questions (with FACTS, not your opinion):

Who sold blacks as slaves?

How long were blacks considered chattel in the USA?

How long did slavery last in the USA?

How many people owned slaves in the USA?

How many of the slaves in the USA were white?

Which nation halted slavery in other countries?

Which nation halted slavery in their own country?

Where is slavery practiced today?

Now, take back all of your nonsense accusations!

Art-P.O.G. | June 6, 2008, 5:38am | #

Hey, "Manderley", what does any of that have to do with Michelle Obama or Larry Johnson? In addition, I think the precedence for the impropriety of the pejorative was previously established by Sly and the Family Stone.

Bagster | June 6, 2008, 7:38am | #

hey "Art-P.O.G."

what it has to do with michelle hussein obama and larry johnson is this.....he's trying to say that its only guilt ridden white self-hating liberals, like you, who profess to some type of moral superiority and cry, "oh im not offended by the term whitey" due to some guilt you feel over slavery in america, none of which you had any part of...

get it you hypocrites? nobody in america today was a slave or owned a slave.....its the michelle obamas and louis farrakhans of this world (and the baraks too) that seek to blame "whitey" for "keeping them down" ad nauseum when all they have to do is just stand up....

of course, victimology pays better, so why not?

as for me? i dont need a tape to know all i need to know about michelle the angry black female with a chip on her shoulder....and by extension her racist husband....

funny how you guilt-ridden commie-libs scream like stuck pigs at white racism and yet give black racism a pass....

you guys crack me up

No, its true. I've also seen the video of Larry Johnson copulating with sheep in drag. In the video, he's clearly been drinking. There also appear to be a blotch of white powder smeared on his dress, which is believed by some to be cocaine.

Erik | June 6, 2008, 8:03am | #

The tape is in Republican hands: do you think Karl Rove is stupid enough to release the tape now before Clinton has conceded?

Because the sitting on it strategy worked so well for the democrats with the GWB drunk driving arrest story...

I just wanted to say that I was 30 years old before I realized cracker was not just a Saltine. In fact it was a military class on racial unity that told me, I was very surprised to find out that I was a cracker. I thought I was just a redneck.

revger | June 6, 2008, 8:20am | #

I'm curious about the tape of Larry Johnson fucking sheep in drag. Is Larry in drag or are the sheep or both?

This whisper campaign is just the latest(?) in the long tradition named "The Paranoid Style in American Politics" (after the 196os essay by Richard Hofstadter).

-------------------
The paranoid spokesman sees the fate of conspiracy in apocalyptic terms—he traffics in the birth and death of whole worlds, whole political orders, whole systems of human values. He is always manning the barricades of civilization. He constantly lives at a turning point. Like religious millenialists he expresses the anxiety of those who are living through the last days and he is sometimes disposed to set a date fort the apocalypse. (“Time is running out,” said Welch in 1951. “Evidence is piling up on many sides and from many sources that October 1952 is the fatal month when Stalin will attack.”)

As a member of the avant-garde who is capable of perceiving the conspiracy before it is fully obvious to an as yet unaroused public, the paranoid is a militant leader. He does not see social conflict as something to be mediated and compromised, in the manner of the working politician.

Since what is at stake is always a conflict between absolute good and absolute evil, what is necessary is not compromise but the will to fight things out to a finish. Since the enemy is thought of as being totally evil and totally unappeasable, he must be totally eliminated—if not from the world, at least from the theatre of operations to which the paranoid directs his attention.

This demand for total triumph leads to the formulation of hopelessly unrealistic goals, and since these goals are not even remotely attainable, failure constantly heightens the paranoid’s sense of frustration. Even partial success leaves him with the same feeling of powerlessness with which he began, and this in turn only strengthens his awareness of the vast and terrifying quality of the enemy he opposes.

The enemy is clearly delineated: he is a perfect model of malice, a kind of amoral superman—sinister, ubiquitous, powerful, cruel, sensual, luxury-loving. Unlike the rest of us, the enemy is not caught in the toils of the vast mechanism of history, himself a victim of his past, his desires, his limitations. He wills, indeed he manufactures, the mechanism of history, or tries to deflect the normal course of history in an evil way.

He makes crises, starts runs on banks, causes depressions, manufactures disasters, and then enjoys and profits from the misery he has produced. The paranoid’s interpretation of history is distinctly personal: decisive events are not taken as part of the stream of history, but as the consequences of someone’s will.

Very often the enemy is held to possess some especially effective source of power: he controls the press; he has unlimited funds; he has a new secret for influencing the mind (brainwashing); he has a special technique for seduction (the Catholic confessional). [...]

Larry Johnson is now reporting that Michelle Obama has 36 business hours to put her affairs in order before George W. Bush has her arrested because God told him to.

Dorothy Wachsstock | June 6, 2008, 8:29am | #

One can only go by Obama's friends and assoicates since there is only a scant record of him saying, "Present" or voting against the important bills in the Senate.

Whose that lie down with dogs get up with fleas.

Eliot Ware | June 6, 2008, 8:33am | #

Just a point of information...I've got to let all my caucasian Brothers and Sisters in on a little secret that we Black Americans have...we never use the term "whitey". That's just something that Sherman Hemsley used to say to make you folks think that we have an epithet for you. We really don't. We generally stick to the term "white folks" when referring to white folks. Occassionally, we may use the term "rednecks" but when we do that, we mean it in the same way that you do. Not really an epithet. More of an observation, really. Sorry.

ron | June 6, 2008, 8:45am | #

So, call me Whitey (if she did), what's the big deal? Michelle should just say "After 200 years of slavery, deal with it, mofo."

Dwayne Mayor | June 6, 2008, 8:47am | #

And another 100 of Jim Crow, mind you.
