Check Out Reason.tv right now!

We're extremely happy and proud to announce the launch of Reason.tv, a brand-spanking-new site that will be the home of a series of video-journalism pieces created by the incomparable Drew Carey.

Reason.tv will also provide a one-stop site for all sorts of video related to reason magazine and the good folks at reason foundation, the nonprofit that publishes the print and online editions of America's only media outlet devoted to "Free Minds and Free Markets."

At Reason.tv right now, you'll find a tantalizing preview of the work Drew is doing, as well as choice clips from recent TV appearances by reason staffers such as Nick Gillespie (on Bill Moyers' Journal), Jacob Sullum (being called a pinhead by Bill O'Reilly!), Brian Doherty (discussing Milton Friedman's legacy of liberty), Kerry Howley (on Fox News' Weekend Live), and Radley Balko (testifying before Congress on your inalienable right to gamble online). There's also a great video blog called rough cut.

It's all at Reason.tv. Go there five minutes ago.

was this posted by the disembodied head behind the curtain in Reason's underground bunker?

Ken Shultz | October 10, 2007, 10:21am | #

Awesome.

Totally, completely awesome.

Hurray!

sage | October 10, 2007, 10:25am | #

Dude.

I'll check it out when I get home. I'm going to take a wild guess that it won't work from where I am now.

Pity.

Randolph Carter | October 10, 2007, 10:26am | #

but seriously this is awesome

ace | October 10, 2007, 10:37am | #

ooh I just had a freedomgasm. great idea, reason staff, may these videos spread like wildfire (they'll be uploaded to youtube, right?).

Ken Shultz | October 10, 2007, 10:50am | #

You Tube, sure, viral wildfire good, but cable television better.

I fantasized before about what Reason would be like on television (An "On the Other Hand with Cathy" segment; Cavanaugh reviewing zombie movies), and this is something like what I'd imagined.

I just hope they don't end up on PBS. Seeing Gillespie in the KCET studio during pledge drives, over publicly misappropriated airwaves, that might be too much for Real Libertarians. Why the condemnation thread here at Hit & Run would probably get over a hundred hits!

...and we just can't have that. ;(

Eh, screw the Real Libertarians--I want my Reason TV!

Guy Montag | October 10, 2007, 11:17am | #

Any luck getting the Nick clips from Showtime where he called everybody who supports border security "racists"? I suspect that the raw footage will show Nick to be a victim of editing.

JLM | October 10, 2007, 11:18am | #

The O'Reilly segment is almost unbearable to watch. It must be hell having to deal with such morons to promote a book.

Reason TV! This looks to be lotsa fun. Can we get FOX and CNN to take it? They both certainly need it.

Go there five minutes ago.

Yeah, and I wanna time travel too. But is there any arrangement of matter and energy from the past that is still there to go to? How can time travel into the future be compatible with free will? Did Hugh Everett have anything to say on these considerations?

Rick Barton | October 10, 2007, 11:27am | #

Wow! Very nice! Kudos, Reason!

man i love the look on jacob's face at the beginning, like someone who's going to get a root canal from an epileptic clown.

dhex | October 10, 2007, 11:40am | #

oddly enough, he was right about the clown part.

thoreau | October 10, 2007, 11:41am | #

Not that big a deal, I stopped time traveling 28 years from now.

That other stuff is crap you talk about in time travel class. In the real world hardly anybody discusses it unless they wind up in a Student Union or magazine writer's conf. room.

The respect of all of us if you managed to watch Bill 'O for the entire hour.

Shady O'Grady | October 10, 2007, 12:11pm | #

This is a wonderful idea, Reason is the right organization to capture free-market video media on the internet.

My question is why devote a whole different site to this? You have a user base on reason.com that would be most interested in this stuff, why not intergrate the video material on this site in a way that is unobtrussive to text-philes? Seperating content by media type is probably not your best bet.

The Wine Commonsewer | October 10, 2007, 12:26pm | #

dhex & Cesar, it was excruciating. Mrs TWC & I groaned and boo'd from our bleacher seats. But of course, we expected O'Reilly's head to explode.

anangbhai | October 10, 2007, 12:39pm | #

Why are you doing this? I have work to do. What is wrong with you people? Don't I spend enough time being addicted to your informative articles and op-eds?

anangbhai | October 10, 2007, 12:43pm | #

I hope carey's better here. He got bitchslapped by Bill Maher on the healthcare thing. Or rather, Maher immediately went on the attack and didn't let Drew say anything.

Someone should do a tribute to the Pacific island of Tuvalu, to whom you owe the suffix distinction. I'll start!

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Tuvalu):

--"Virtually the only jobs in the islands that pay a steady wage or salary are with the government. "

--"Government revenues largely come from sales of stamps and coins, fishing licenses, income from the TTF [Tuvalu Trust Fund], and from the lease of its highly fortuitous .tv Internet Top Level Domain (TLD)." Don't forget foreign aid and 900 numbers!

[from the main article]
--"It has diplomatic relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan); Taiwan maintains the only resident embassy in Tuvalu and has a large assistance program in the islands."

Cesar | October 10, 2007, 1:56pm | #

I hate how Maher just said, "BUT EVERYTHING WORKED WHEN THE DEMOCRATS WERE IN POWER!". Stupid Team Blue shill. I don't mind stoners, but stoners who want the government cleaning up after them (Maher) can go to hell.

Bronwyn | October 10, 2007, 2:22pm | #

The O'Reilly segment is making me want to throw things. I can't throw things while I'm at work, guys.

This reason.tv thing is gonna be my ruin.

I LOVE IT!

Has anybody really examined how practical the libertarian agenda is? Take a look at:
http://podcasts.bsalert.com/
for an interview with an anarcho-capitalist libertarian and a discussion of how this government would operate.

anangbhai | October 10, 2007, 6:59pm | #

The Bill Maher appearance really got to me, just on a superficial level because of the way he immediately shot drew down. I would've mentioned the post office as a talking point, at least the audience would've got it.

droolface | October 10, 2007, 7:36pm | #

you'd probably get more hits if you name it kerryhowley.tv

Guy Montag | October 10, 2007, 9:48pm | #

Are the Radley Balko appearances on Mythbusters on there? That would be cool.

daveb | October 10, 2007, 10:29pm | #

Will this guy get time on camera to discuss Second Amendment issues?
