Two Steps from Idiocracy

This afternoon on CNN Headline News I saw an approximately 2-minute news segment about the fact that people enjoy watching online videos of people falling down.

And for your entertainment this evening, videos of people falling down (and Toad the Wet Sprocket).

OK, Brian, this is pretty cool, but what we really need is clips of guys getting hit in the nuts, preferably by little kids.

Next on the Violence Channel, an all-new Ow, My Balls!

What's 1 step from Idiocracy, when a the #1 porn site on the Internet shows videos of women cutting steaks with their bare feet?

"Give me a piece of that, oh yeah..."

I thought that the worst possible use of videotape had to be the old Discovery Channel series "The Operation." This is worse. The Fart Channel is next.

Karen wins the thread! :)

Something like this?

Karen | July 26, 2007, 10:48pm | #

I'm honored, Martin.

Actually, Moos seems like she'd be a lot of fun.

Meanwhile, here's video of me falling forward, through a bush:

"And the Academy Award goes to... George C. Scott in Man Getting Hit by Football."

Alan Vanneman:

Ask and ye shall receive:

Kicked in the Nuts
(Both episodes!)

though admittedly the little kids aren't doing any kicking

Two Steps From Idiocracy

That far?

CowDog | July 27, 2007, 1:15am | #

Wasn't there a Simpsons episode where Springfield hosts a movie festival? Homer was a judge and wanted to give the top prize to "Man get hit in the Groin by a Football."

At the end of the episode, that movie was done by a major studio with George C. Scott playing the Man hit in the Groin.

CowDog,

You mean like I referenced three posts and 83 minutes ago?

Go 'way...

Which is worse:

That people enjoy watching online videos of people falling down?

Or that CNN thought this was newsworthy?

The Wine Commonsewer® | July 27, 2007, 2:08am | #

This is classic. According to my buddy Ron it could only better if the person falling breaks his glasses.

Oh yeah, and I like Toad. It's hell when the new bands are old. What? 15 years ago. No way.

Are we suprised at this bit of "news"? Hell, MTV have a program called (in the UK at least) 'Scarred' which shows nothing but fools falling down and injuring themselves badly.

Skateboards, bikes and incessant cross-cuts feature prominently.

CowDog | July 27, 2007, 7:53am | #

Well, Anonymo the Anonymous, if you expect total reading comprehension from me at that hour, you may consider those expectations hopeless.

:)

OW, My Balls! Not surprising, just shows we haven't really changed since the time of the coloseum in ancient Rome.

George C. Scott | July 27, 2007, 11:10am | #

Man Getting Hit By Football isn't just about a man falling down. It's ultimately about ALL of us falling down. It's a metaphor for the human condition.

President Not Sure | July 27, 2007, 12:26pm | #

There was a time in this country when reading wasn't just for fags, and neither was writing. People wrote books, and movies: movies that had stories, so you cared whose ass it was, and why it was farting. And I believe that time can come again.
