Don't Bother the Students with Facts

Florida's Hillsborough High School censored an article in the student newspaper that detailed the gap in academic performance between white students and minority students, as well as the school's efforts to address the gap. The article relied on publicly available data, but the principal says the students couldn't handle it. "If it's something that has a potential to hurt students' self-esteem, then I have an obligation not to let that happen. I don't think it's the job of the school newspaper to embarrass the students," principal William Orr told the St. Petersburg Times.
