Happy DNA Day!

Move over National Gazpacho Day. Step aside National Skydiving Safety Day. Today, April 25th, is DNA Day! On this day of days, we celebrate the double helix which is arguably the beautiful iconic image of the 21st century.

Deoxyribonucleic acid began winding its twisty way into our consciousnesses 55 years ago when its structure was first published in Nature on April 25, 1953. April 25th is also the day that the human genome project was officially declared complete 5 years ago.

Ron Bailey,

Today is World Malaria Day too.

Taktik: Thanks much. That's what happens sometimes when you change tenses back and forth during editing. Fixed. Now get out and celebrate! :-)

Calidore: And the malaria genome was decoded more than a year before the human one.

Damn. And I didn't get my genetic markers anything.

it's of great sense, but few people know about the day

Ron, your pointless post is not as amusing as Jesse and Dave's pointless posts. But neither is this pointless post either.

1) I've often wondered when there would be so many theme "days" and "weeks" and "months" that they would overlap and cancel each other out. I think we've reached that point.

2) I can tell that R.B. loves his work because I don't really find DNA to be a beautiful iconic image. However, I do support people loving their work. :)

Episiarch: As hard as I strive, I know that fall far short of the glory of Jesse's and Dave's pointless posts.

But I hope that you will find my latest post on new medical icons approaches their level sublime pointlessness.

Today is also World Penguin Day! Any word on the genome sequencing of the Adelie penguin, Ron? Reasonoids want to know.

I'm still sad, because it's still almost a year before the next National Return Your Shopping Cart to the Supermarket Month.

Every February, family and friends gather to celebrate what might be my favorite joe post ever.

Today is also World Penguin Day!

Then in the spirit of the holiday, let us all shower Baked Penguin with praise and adoration by quoting him whenever possible today.

Even when it's totally off-topic and silly.

Especially then.

Happy DNA Day! It's life baby! Yeah!

Ron:

April 25th is also the day that the human genome project was officially declared complete 5 years ago.

What delightful serendipity. And note that the race to complete human genome project was won by Celera Genomics, a private concern that crushed the government labs.

A fine way to celebrate DNA Day would be to study and learn more about our molecular roots and also, to learn about the groovy prospects for a better quality of life that this knowledge continues to engender, read Ron's fascinating book-"Liberation Biology"

Of course he's not covering it. He's in the pocket of Big Fish.

Ron,

I have to do something with this otherwise useless English B.A. ;)
