Attn, DC Reasonoids: Happy Hour, Tuesday, November 27, 6.30PM

Please join reason staffers Nick Gillespie, Jesse Walker, Ronald Bailey, Radley Balko, Kerry Howley, Katherine Mangu-Ward, Michael Moynihan, and David Weigel on Tuesday, November 27, as we enjoy drink specials and 15-cent wings at The Big Hunt.

We'll be celebrating the publication of our December '07 issue and hopefully our January '08 issue (if the printer delivers on time), which features the blockbuster stories on guest-worker programs, panics over big-box retailers, the New Deal and movie censorship, and non-collectivist diet tips that really work (this last may be the most pressing political story of the season for all too many of us).

We'll also be celebrating special guest star Matt Welch, author of the awesome new book McCain: The Myth of a Maverick; reason's selection as a finalist for an Utne Independent Press Award for our political coverage; and the blockbuster success of reason.tv, where Drew Carey defends medical marijuana, Anthony Bourdain defends foie gras, and Kurt Loder defends free expression.

The fun starts at 6.30PM and ends whenever you say it does.

Free copies of reason and reason stickers, too.

The Big Hunt is located at 1345 Connecticut Ave., NW, one block south of Dupont Circle.

We'll be gathering at the side bar, probably upstairs too, and will have access to the (smoker-friendly!) back patio.

Jesus -- I just got the previous issue of Reason (the one with Giulianus on the cover). Seriously! It just arrived in my mailbox the day before yesterday.

Why does it take forever for us Missourians so extra-long to get our copies, long after everyone else? Why does Reason hate the American Heartland so very, very much?

matthew hogan | November 21, 2007, 9:31pm | #

Why is delivery a problem? Because Reason isn't listening. Why? Because they have these events at places too loud to hear a word, and it damages the hearing.

Annosandasn | November 22, 2007, 1:22am | #

Hey reason, since you all are so REASONABLE, why not do a report on how illegal immigration is good for America, while factoring in the high Latino crime rate, high out of wedlock birth rate and use of social services?

OT: Today is the 44th anniversary of the event that inspired the Seinfeld episodes featuring Keith Hernandez.

I may be wrong, but if I am not, the irony (or perhaps the feeling of triumph) is that (and I think I am correct, though it has been a long time) the location of The Big Hunt is that of the former "Common Concerns" bookstore -- a former commie-inspired shop with pro-sandinista memorabilia, whole walls of Communist theory, and just about any arch lefty tome you could imagine.

When Communist failed, so did CC and it was not only replaced with a bar, but a bar with the very un-pc name of "The Big Hunt" which you can either read as prokillinganimal or, if you say it quickly, something of a sexist slight.

And now, Libertarians (of all people) are celebrating on the very grounds.

Any of youse remember

DC. DC DC DC. Fine. Be in DC, that bastion of American statist cheese. Someday I am going to fly out there for one of these damn gatherings to meet everyone of you, whom I so want to meet.

But for the time being I will just hold down the fort here in San Francisco, which is a tough job, dammit. You all ought to fly out here some time and have a beer with ME.

Williams | November 22, 2007, 6:42pm | #

Ahh, lucky me. I'm in DC and I LOVE Reason mag. I'll be there!

I highly suggest a reason happy hour/vacation to sunny South Florida...

Attention all staffers! Don't forget - do not ask Matt Welch about French health care under any circumstances, as the cognitive dissonance that his answer will generate may cause you substantial cranial discomfort.

I was thinking all the Reason writers need to get together and organize the 2008 ExxonMobil* Reason Hit&Run US Tour. You could get yourself a vintage gas-guzzling Winnebago and all pile in for a two-month tour of happy-hours from Brooklyn to Burbank and from Seattle to South Beach. I imagine you'd even get some groupies following your around from city to city while you get paid to party like a blog-star.

*I'm assuming Ron Bailey can use some of his big-oil connections to line up a corporate sponsor for the tour. Of course if he's really any good he'll get you all a private jet instead of that Winnebago... ;)~

What happened to the previous post about South American Communists?

The memory hole should be a bug NOT a function!

Stevo,
Really?? I've had that since first week in Nov. I'm already finished with it. I would have thought you'd have gotten yours a week earlier, as it takes that long for the mule train to carry it here after the riverboat drops it off there. You must have done something to put you on the bottom of the list.

Crap, can't make this one. Ya' know, I'm gonna have to make it to one of these once, since I actually live here and stuff.

We'll be celebrating the publication of our December '08 issue.

Isn't it a bit early for that...like a year early? Or did Chavez change the calenders along with the clocks?

Taktix® | November 26, 2007, 3:15pm | #

I still haven't gotten my new issue either. However, since I live in Florida, where people are probably 20 years behind the times, the extra few weeks are a moot point...

"Why does it take forever for us Missourians so extra-long to get our copies, long after everyone else?"

The obvious "Reason"... the "US" in USPS.

The obvious "Reason" solution... privatize it.

CB
On topic - are these things worth attending? I mean besides Kerry, that is... and drink specials... and 15 cent wings...

Yes, you can sometimes meet all 3 of the sane Ron Paul fans in the same place at the same time.

Fixed, thanks.

I'll need a ruling from the Chair on this one: drink, or no drink?

Guy Montag | November 27, 2007, 6:51am | #

Is anybody still going to this since the big war protest/terrorist support rally is in Annapolis all day today?

Or is this the after-party?

Guy Montag | November 27, 2007, 6:51am | #

RCD,

Drink!

Cracker's Boy | November 27, 2007, 8:00am | #

G'mornin' Guy.

I didn't wait. I started right after I posted it.

I couldn't pull the trigger on flying to DC today for the Happy Hour. Maybe next month.

CB,

There is a good chance I won't be making it today either :(

This work stuff and all.
